Standing Up For Smaller Retailers
Palmer & Harvey show leadership with report launch, research and guidance
Introduction
News agents or CTNs have been left behind in the convenience retail sector by both wholesalers and FMCG brands. Currently the macro-economic climate is tough. Leading sector wholesaler, Palmer and Harvey, has a long heritage of working with these shopkeepers.
The Challenge
Palmer and Harvey needed to demonstrate tangible support for these smaller retailers, while also demonstrating a leadership position to the rest of the industry.
The Solution
Velvet created a report using a magazine format, called ‘Shop Health’, which offered smaller retailers both practical guidance and the results of exclusive shopper and retailer research tailored to the needs of this audience.
The Approach
The report included interviews with leading retailers, a retailer round table and an interview with Priti Patel MP, Chair of the House of Commons All Party Working Group on Small Shops.
The Results
The report findings were amplified in the media, with targeted releases tailored to key titles and media sectors. This resulted in blanket trade coverage, underlined with industry profiling, an exclusive in The Sun and two separate stories in The Daily Express.
The report was launched at The Houses of Parliament, and hosted by Priti Patel MP, with a debate featuring Association of Convenience Stores Chief Executive James Lowman, author Bill Grimsby and MP Peter Aldous. Attendees included leading retailers, key brands targeting the sector, trade bodies and the press.
